BMR is sponsoring a new project initiated by 3 of its staff members

Action is stronger than words.

AGUS and GEDE with the help of PUTU had a meeting with BMR recently and talked about their plan to clean up the village.
Certain systems and some capital was needed for the purchase of Bins and the ongoing weekly collection of the plastic, bottles and cans and subsequent delivery to a recycling center in Tabanan.

BMR totally supports this type of locally inspired project and immediately bought the bins , organised the weekly collection and disposal to recycling center. GEDE offered his services to drive the vehicle to Tabanan free of charge once a week.

So on the 23rd August, all the staff at BMR as well as the owners, children and guests , all went to the village and cleaned the major walkways and roads of plastic. This action surprised many locals who were confused , why were western people cleaning their village. this was a great opportunity to explain to locals the danger of burning plastic and then place the bins at strategic places in the village.

AGUS is holding meetings with the school and community in an effort to educate them to the dangers of burning the plastic or burying the plastic in a farming area.

As owner of BMR i am very pleased to see the young people becoming aware of the local problem and deciding to do something about it at a village level. This may be the result of consistent comments by hikers on BMR treks to the guides about the rubbish.

3 weeks later, there is a distinct awareness in the village, and plastic IS finding it's way to the bins.
