The Enemy 'Plastic' Project Made from the village has taken over co ordinating this project.
Bali Mountain Retreat, Sarinbuana Eco Lodge Action is stronger than words.
BMR and Sarinbuana Ecolodge talked about their plan to clean up the village with some locals. This has now been improved with the distribution of bags for the rubbish which are then emptied into a truck hired to take the rubbish to the recycling centre in Tabanan once a month.
On the 23rd August 2009, all the staff at BMR as well as the owners, children and guests , all went to the village and cleaned the major walkways and roads of plastic. This action surprised many locals who were confused , why were western people cleaning their village. this was a great opportunity to explain to locals the danger of burning plastic and then place the bins at strategic places in the village.
Made is holding meetings with the school and community in an effort to educate them to the dangers of burning the plastic or burying the plastic in a farming area.
We have all noticed the huge difference in the village, the streets are clean and hopefully the locals will feel a sense of pride in the villages concerned.
This project is as much about educating for the future as it is about the rubbish itself.

Why Is burning plastic so bad?? The burning of plastic in waste fires or on the street can produce a chemical group called Dioxins. This is dependent on the plastics themselves. Dioxin is a known human carcinogen and the most potent synthetic carcinogen ever tested in laboratory animals.
