CD 12: Seka Terompong Ujung, Tenganan, Karangasem, Bali

Little is known about this Traditional Gamelan. The name itself is confusing as there is not a trompong in the group and Ujung is a water Palace in the area. This is the only time I have come across this ensemble, in Tenganan, the Bali Aga village in Karangasan, Bali.

Ujung : Ujung is the beautiful yet dilapidated ruin of a once grand water palace built by the last king of Karang Asem, I Gusti Bagus Jelantik, that reigned in Karangasem between 1909 and 1945.. Ujung Water Palace, which by the local people is called as Taman Soekasada Ujung, was built in 1919, majestically built to welcome and to serve important guests and Kings from neighboring countries, besides for the pleasure of the King and his royal family. However, the launching of this complex of water palace was performed in 1912.

The water palace was constructed by the late King of Karangasem,
